Visiting Bok Tower

I have heard wonderful things about Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales and the kids have been begging to do something to we decided to take a roadtrip! The Tower was stunning but a wee bit disappointing because tourists are not allowed to go up in the tower. Their website boasts of the 211 stairs and yet you’re not allowed inside. It was disappointing but it was amazing listening to the 60 bell carillon. The 60 bells range in weight from 16 pounds to nearly 12 tons. The instrument was designed and built in 1928 by John Taylor Bellfoundry, Ltd. of Loughborough, England-the world’s largest bellfoundry.

Since we weren’t allowed up in the tower, we decided to tour the gardens but sadly that was another disappointment as nothing seemed to be in bloom. As we were leaving town, we saw a sign for Spook Hill and thanks to modern technology were able to Google it on our iPhones. Turns out it’s a gravity phenomenon where you car will roll up hill when placed in neutral. I finally found Spook Hill and after numerous tries found that the only thing our big Suburban did was roll down hill! I started joking around saying that there must be a hidden camera somewhere so locals could laugh at tourists trying to make their cars roll up hill! LOL

We ended up salvaging the day by finding a local candy shop. It has always been my experience that candy makes everything better whether your a kid or a kid at heart! 🙂
