Miserable 4 hrs in the ER

Carter & Naomi: 11 years old

I spent a miserable 4 hours in the emergency room to learn that I have torn the Infraspinatus muscle of my left shoulder. I would love to tell an exotic tale of how I tore the muscle skiing in Aspen but sadly the story of my injury is more of the embarrassing variety. I tore it sleeping!!!! I’ve been waking up feeling achy for the last couple of weeks so I decided to adjust the sleep number on my bed. I don’t know what happened after I fell asleep Sunday night but I woke up Monday morning unable to use my left arm due to horrific pain in my shoulder. I went to work as usual but by 11:30 the pain in my shoulder was radiating pain and giving me a bad headache so I went home, took some Excedrin and went to sleep. I took the day off today hoping that it was just a kink that would work itself out with rest. By 5:00 I couldn’t take it anymore and went to the emergency room to begin my long wait to see a doctor. Luckily it was an easy diagnosis so he handed me 4 prescriptions and off we went. Who knew that sleeping could be so hazardous to your body?!?!?! Leave it to me to find a way to hurt myself while sleeping! LOL
