Carter & Naomi: 3 years old
Andrew: 1 years old
Marshall: 2 years old

Today started promptly at 4:30 am! The last time I saw 4:30 am was 1962 (and I was born in 1969! LOL)  I didn’t get to see dad before he went into surgery because the daycare doesn’t accept children before 6:30 but I was able to talk with him on the phone and he was in high spirits. Surgery got underway a little late due to an incoming emergency. They made the first incision at 9:00. By 10:30 he was on the heart/lung machine and by 11:30 he was off the machine and stable. The doctor was pleased with how well the surgery went. They did end up grafting 4 vessels – two veins and two arteries. We were finally able to see dad at 2:00 pm and I was surprised at how well he looked. Due to CSICU rules, we could only see dad again at 4:00 pm and 8:30 pm. At the 8:30 pm visit, he was very alert and in very high spirits. Unfortunately, he still had the vent because his breaths per minute fall whenever he dozes off to sleep. The respiratory therapist is confident that the vent will be removed by midnight.

The boys did great at daycare. I called about 1:30 and the teachers said Carter and Nathan were little angels. They commented on how they kept saying “please” and “thank you”. Andrew was a little cranky but I think that’s to be expected since he’s never been left with strangers. Carter and Nathan each drew Poppy a picture. When Nathan was showing me his picture he said “this will make Poppy’s boo-boo feel better”. When Carter showed me his picture, he had drawn a picture of a man (quite well if I do say so myself) and he said that it was his Poppy. During my last visit to see Poppy, the nurses hung the pictures from the tv so Poppy could have a great view of them!

Thank you all for your continued thoughts and prayers. They must be working because dad is doing great!
