Emily comes home

Carter & Naomi: 12 years old
Andrew: 10 years old
Marshall: 6 years old

Emily’s night was off and on. She would sleep for a couple of hours and then wake up in extreme pain. The worst part was her awakening at 7:00 to the doctor removing her ace bandage! Although the rod doesn’t need to be covered, he thoughtfully covered it following surgery so she wouldn’t wake up and freak out at the rod. Well, as suspected, she freaked out when she saw the rod. She screamed non-stop until he got all of the bandages off. I do have to admit that her lungs are quite healthy!!!!!

We spent the next several hours just chilling in our room waiting for physical therapy to come get her out of bed (better them than me). Her room was absolutely amazing! We were in pediatric ICU because that was the only pediatric bed available in the hospital. This room was a mac-daddy suite! It had a 40+ inch flat screen t.v. which was connected to the internet. We could play games, watch cable or even watch free movies! Behind her bed, at the ceiling, were colored lights. There was a switch on the wall where we could change the color of the lights or having them cycle through all of the lights. She chose purple ~ no surprise there!

KC from physical therapy came by around lunch time and got Emily up and into a wheelchair. To say that Emily was not happy is an understatement. She screamed bloody murder! We let Emily sit in the chair for about an hour and then KC showed me how to help her back to the bed using a walker. After we got Emily back in the bed, Lauren came in to show me how to clean Emily’s pins. Emily didn’t like that any better than she liked moving to the wheelchair! Emily had a nice long nap while we waited for the medical supply company to deliver us a wheelchair and a walker to take home.

Once our wheelchair and walker were delivered, things moved quickly to get us back home. Lauren was great getting us our meds from the pharmacy so Emily wouldn’t have to wait for me to drive to Walgreens. We got Emily into her wheelchair and John met us at the front door. The ride home was smooth. Emily played on my iPhone and was quite happy. I got her settled in for the night and went to unpack when I heard her screaming for me from the living room. I ran in to see what was wrong and all she wanted was to show me how she could wheel around her wheelchair! I wish adults could bounce back as quickly as kids!
