Surgery #30 – neck surgery

I honestly don’t know how someone as “healthy” as myself could end up having so many surgeries.  This time I needed a discectomy at C5/6 with bone graft and fusion with hardware implementation (plate and screws).  Believe it or not, the surgery is more difficult from the back of the neck so they go in through the front.  The surgery went well and within an hour and a half, I was back in recovery asking for the bathroom.  I was a little loopy from the medicine so it turns out I was demanding a bathroom and not asking politely like I normally would.  Hopefully the nurses are used to it and didn’t blame me too much.

After a little while in recovery, I was wheeled to my room.  The surgery wasn’t nearly as painful as my back surgery but I HATE the collar.  Wearing it makes you feel like you’re being choked!  Luckily the doctor said I don’t have to wear it when I’m sleeping.  I tried to wear it while sleeping but finally gave up around 4am.  I was nervous about taking it off but the nurse assured me that it was okay … the doctor even said so in his orders.

Yes marks the spot!
