Meet & Greet

Carter & Naomi: 12 years old
Andrew: 10 years old
Marshall: 6 years old

Andrew and Emily had their meet and greet at school today. Emily has Ms. Johnson and Andrew has Ms. Sanders. We went to Andrew’s class first and his classroom is in the new section of the school and it gorgeous. Andrew was very excited to have a couple of friends in his homeroom. It was funny walking down the hallway with him … we couldn’t go 10 feet without someone saying “hi Andrew”. Next we went to Emily’s class and wouldn’t you know it, it’s the same room as she had last year only amped up. During the middle of the school year last year they moved her kindergarten class to the new part of the school and then started revamping the rooms in the old portion of the school. I didn’t even recognize the room. They had almost doubled the size of the room, added a huge electronic board and an art section. Emily’s teacher was extremely sweet and very anxious to meet her new class. She had balloons, cookies, Rice Krispie Treats and a little bag of goodies. She made me wish I was going to be in her first grade class! After meeting Emily’s teacher we went and met with Andrew’s gifted teacher Ms. Kelly and learned a little more about her class. The class is once a week and the kids learn different ways of approaching learning and thinking. It really teaches them critical thinking in a challenging but fun way.

After meet and greet we headed over to LensCrafters to have Andrew’s eyes examined. At his yearly physical the doctor thought he might need glasses. It turns out he is on the fence. If he is trying to see things from really far away he could benefit from glasses but he doesn’t need them for close up, reading, video games or even seeing the board at the front of his classroom. After a long chat with the doctor, we decided to wait on the glasses for a year or until Andrew notices that he is having trouble seeing. I think Andrew was a little sad that he didn’t need glasses like his older brothers but I tried to assure him that another year on the playground and running around without glasses was a good thing. 🙂
