Buckyball frenzy

Carter & Naomi: 11 years old
Andrew: 9 years old
Marshall: 5 years old

Last summer I discovered a really cool toy called Buckyballs (http://www.getbuckyballs.com) which are 5mm magnet balls that have both a positive and negative pole making it easy to create really nifty creations.  I only got a starter pack with about 30 balls and never really did anything with it.  Well, Carter got to playing with them and asked me to get a full set of 216.  Now we all have our own set and find them really addictive!  Emily counts the balls and has learned to make different shapes and Andrew is using geometry and spatial relations.  We have printed out instructions on how to make some basic shapes like the square in these photos and also a pyramid as well as creating out own shapes so the kids are also learning how to follow instructions.  The kids (and I) are having a blast so don’t tell them there is an educational aspect to this toy!  LOL
