Today was surgery day. We got to the hospital at 6:00 am and they took me back to pre-op shortly after. The laparotomy got underway at 7:30 am and about an hour later Dr. Bayouth was telling John I was in recovery. Dr. Bayouth was not able to find anything obvious that would be causing my pain. He suspects the cause was somewhere in my previous scar so he removed the old scar. Once I was in recovery they gave me a pump with Dilaudid in it. The only other pump I’ve ever had was with Morphine. In my limited experience, Dilaudid was a LOT better! I had a horrible episode late in the afternoon when the nurse had to track down the doctor to give me extra meds. I can’t imagine how funny I must have looked. I was moaning out of agony while she was pushing in Toradol. I kept moaning until she got to the end of the medicine and then all of a sudden it kicked in and I let out this HUGE sigh of relief and fell asleep! The rest of the day was one huge blur!
